YouTube approached us to help them produce “a film festival for the rest of us”. With the difficulty of breaking into the hollywood movie business almost impossible for young film-makers YouTube ran an online competition to find the best amateur film maker in the world.
In another example of Google and YouTube championing the “democracy of the web” the YouTube community voted for their favourite film before the shortlist went before a grand prize jury of industry professionals, including Sir Ridley Scott and Michael Fassbender, judged the 10 finalist films and selected the winner which was announced in Venice after the Your Film Festival screening.
The grand prize jury The winner has been awarded a $500,000 grant, to create original work for their YouTube channel, with support from Sir Ridley Scott, Michael Fassbender, and the team at Scott Free Productions.
Our role involved us developing the creative wrapper and art direction for each stage of the competition.
